Community education and behaviour change

The WasteSorted Community Education Grants 2026-27 are an initiative of the Government of Western Australia (State Government) administered by the Waste Authority. They provide funding for community education and behaviour change projects that help to achieve the objectives and targets of Western Australia's Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 (waste strategy).

You are strongly encouraged to use the Waste Authority’s WasteSorted toolkit and GREAT Sorts campaign messages in your project. Your application should explain how these messages will be included in project delivery and communications.

💰 A maximum grant of $25,000 (excluding GST) is available per project.

Please take your time to read all questions (and hints) before starting your application. Complete each section, refer to the guidelines and allow yourself enough time to review the application before the due date.

⏳ Please allow at least 12 weeks from the closing date of applications to approval of funding.

SmartyGrants tips

To help you complete your application smoothly:

💾 Auto Save (NEW) – If SmartyGrants logs you out after 20 minutes of inactivity, your work will be saved automatically.🎉
You’ll see a warning message after 18.5 minutes with a 90‑second countdown. Click Extend Session to keep working.

📝 Save regularly – While auto‑save is now available, we still recommend clicking Save Progress regularly, especially before stepping away.

🖼️ Image uploads – Images can only be added in designated upload sections and can’t be inserted into text fields.

🔍 Spell check – SmartyGrants does not have built‑in spell check. Use your browser’s spell check (e.g. Chrome or Safari).

📁 SmartyFile feature – If your organisation uses SmartyFile, organisational details can be pre‑filled to save time.

 

📬 Submission Reminder - When your form is complete, click Submit. You’ll receive a confirmation email once it has been successfully submitted.   Check your inbox (and spam folder) to confirm your application was successfully received.   No email? You may have missed a question on the form. Many are compulsory, and will not allow you to submit without answering them.
